Former Arkansas Razorback forward Reggie Chaney, a Tulsa native who played two seasons at Arkansas, has died, several news outlets reported yesterday. He was 23.

Chaney was recruited out of high school by former Razorback Head Coach Mike Anderson. He played his freshman season under Anderson in 2018-2019 and his sophomore season under current Head Coach Eric Musselman.

Chaney transferred to the University of Houston for his junior year and played three seasons there, where he earned the 2022-2023 AAC Sixth Man of the Year award. He graduated in May. Whole Hog Sports reported that Chaney had planned to travel to Greece next week to begin his professional career.

No cause of death has been announced, but a GoFundMe has been organized to raise money for Chaney’s memorial.

Many of Chaney’s teammates and coaches posted tributes to Chaney on social media yesterday.

It’s been a tough summer for untimely deaths in the Hog sports world. Former quarterback Ryan Mallett died in June and former running back Alex Collins died in a motorcycle accident earlier this month. Former basketball player Charles Balentine, who hit the game-winning shot against Michael Jordan’s North Carolina Tar Heels in 1980, died earlier this month as well.
