BRYANT, Ark. – Bryant High School teacher Ricky Manes accepted the first ever teacher award for his curriculum about the Holocaust.
Manes got a $5,000 check from the Arkansas Holocaust Education Award Donation Fund, an organization meant to improve the quality of holocaust education.
Manes said he became interested in the holocaust after hearing his grandfather’s stories about World War II.
“I made my way into Holocaust education and conferences and stuff. I met a lot of Holocaust survivors, and their stories just overwhelmed me so much that it just became my passion.”
Arkansas legislators passed a law in 2021 requiring Holocaust Education Week in all public schools.
