Envirotech Vehicles, Inc. of Osceola announced that it has won an $8.57 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for 25 electric school buses.
The awards are on behalf of eight school districts across Arkansas and Texas for which Envirotech (Nasdaq: EVTV) acted as a grant-writer during the 2023 Clean School Bus Grant Program application process, the company said.
In November 2023, Envirotech announced the launch of its Bumble Bee electric school buses for pre-order. Deliveries are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2024. The buses can hold up to 85 passengers.
“We are proud to have secured these awards for our Bumble Bee fully electric school bus on behalf of our eight school district partners,” Phillip Oldridge, Envirotech’s CEO, said in a statement. “The EPA Clean School Bus Program is a distinguished and historic program that is serving to kickstart the much needed electrification of the school bus fleet in the United States.”
In early January, the EPA announced it had selected 67 applicants to receive nearly $1 billion through its first Clean School Bus Grants Competition. The money will help recipients purchase more than 2,700 electric school buses, spanning 280 school buses in 37 states, Envirotech said.
