North Little Rock Police DepartmentARREST MADE: The North Little Rock Police Department have made an arrest in two deaths that occurred last week.

North Little Rock police have charged a Jacksonville man with two counts of capital murder in the homicides of a mother and child whose bodies were found near I-440 last week.

Willie Mott Jr., 43, has also been charged with attempted capital murder in relation to a second surviving child who was found at the scene on Feb. 13.

At about 9:47 a.m. on Feb. 13, North Little Rock officers found 27-year-old Teangela Tate of Jacksonville and Noel Tate, a deceased infant about two months old, near the I-440 on-ramp from Highway 165. Mott and Teangela Tate were the child’s parents, police said.

A second surviving child, about 18 months old, was found and taken to a local hospital for treatment. The child remains in critical condition, a police spokesperson said this morning.

Teangela Tate was the mother of the surviving child but Mott is not the child’s father, police said.

Court records show Mott was charged in November with five felonies for endangering the welfare of a minor, aggravated assault against a family or household member and terroristic threatening. Court records list Teangela Tate as a witness in the case.

On Feb. 13, North Little Rock detectives identified Mott as a person of interest in two deaths near I-440 and, with the assistance of the United States Marshals Eastern District Fugitive Task Force, found him at a residence on Jeff Davis Road in Jacksonville, according to a press release from the North Little Rock Police Department.

While executing a search warrant, detectives determined Teangela Tate was shot and killed at a residence on Jeff Davis Road in Jacksonville. Teagela Tate and Mott were in a relationship and lived together at the residence, police said.

The cause of death for Noel Tate has not been determined.

Mott was taken into custody on unrelated arrest warrants and was transported to the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility.

On Feb. 14, North Little Rock police arrested Mott’s mother, 70-year-old Diane Mott, on one count of hindering apprehension or prosecution and one count of tampering with physical evidence. Diane Mott was transported to the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility, the North Little Rock police said.

Mott was held without bond and was scheduled for an initial court appearance on Feb. 17.
