Judge refuses to reconsider ruling against Missy Bosch in her lawsuit against Cabot School District

A federal judge has refused to reconsider his dismissal of a lawsuit filed by Moms for Liberty activist Melissa “Missy” Bosch against the Cabot School District and others.

The school district put some restrictions on Bosch’s visits to campus — but didn’t ban her entirely — after she was recorded at a Moms for Liberty meeting in 2022 musing about gunning down a school librarian.

In February, U.S. District Judge Lee Rudofsky, a conservative jurist, dismissed the lawsuit but indicated he would almost welcome an appeal to the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Still, on Friday, Rudofsky stood by his decision rejecting Bosch’s lawsuit against the school district, Superintendent Tony Thurman and the city of Cabot.

Referring to Bosch’s arguments, Rudofsky wrote, “The Court concludes that its original Order got it right” and at one point scoffed at arguments by Bosch’s attorneys, saying, “Plaintiff is being too cute by half.”

In June 2022, an anonymous person posted a recording online of Bosch’s comments during a Moms for Liberty meeting in Cabot. In the record, the woman, who police later confirmed was Bosch, complains about a school librarian.

Accounts of Bosch’s exact statement vary slightly because the audio is at times hard to understand. But according to Rudofsky’s written ruling in February, Bosch said, “I’m telling you, if I was any mental issues, they would all be plowed down with a freaking gun by now because I have had it.”

On March 6, Bosch posted a picture of a Feb. 29 letter sent to her by Thurman in which he wrote that the district was in receipt of Rudofsky’s ruling in favor of the district. He added, “This letter serves as notice that, effective immediately, I am rescinding the limitations placed on your ability to access District property.”

Thurman said in an email today that he had to leave for an appointment but would respond to my request for comment Tuesday.
