AEDC Wins National Award for MWBE Program

Just days after telling Arkansas Business about the benefits of certification as a women- or minority-owned company, Esperanza Massana-Crane got pleasant news.

She’s the Arkansas Economic Development Commission’s director of small business and entrepreneurship development.

And the good news?

The AEDC won a national award for its MWBE certification program May 7 in Red Bank, New Jersey.

“I wanted to share this recent award we received from Business Facilities, an economic development publication,” Massana-Crane told Whispers in an email.

Business Facilities honored the AEDC Minority- and Women-Owned Business Certification Program among six state initiatives nationwide. The other state winners: Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, North Carolina and Wisconsin.

Anne Cosgrove, editorial director of Business Facilities, praised the winners for their innovation and resourcefulness. “From workforce development to tech ecosystems and housing issues, the ideas represented focus on the dynamic nature of economic development and corporate site selection,” Cosgrove said in announcing the winners.
