Get Alan Leveritt’s tomatoes at Edwards Food Giant for your Fourth of July festivities

On Friday morning, renowned Bayou Meto farmer (and Arkansas Times publisher) Alan Leveritt will be hauling his organically farm-grown tomatoes to Edwards Food Giant in the Tanglewood Shopping Center in Little Rock and the new North Little Rock store in the Lakewood Village Shopping Center.

Leveritt — who grows his tomatoes on his farm in north Pulaski County — has become quite the tomato fairy around the Fourth of July in recent years, and he hopes to be able to supply Edwards through the holiday.

But it’s up to the weather and nature, Leveritt said. Varieties will include Goldies, Carbons, Cherokee Purples and Ananas Noire, a French heirloom with green and red marbling. The tomatoes have been raised free of any chemical pesticides or fungicides. So far the season has been good, but Leveritt, ever the optimist,
says he is still waiting for the softball size hail and swarms of blister bugs.

Better get them while you can.
