SEARCY, Ark. – McRae Elementary School in Searcy will work towards providing a more accessible playground for students with disabilities with the help of a grant from Entergy Arkansas.
Officials with Entergy Arkansas said the company awarded the school a $5,000 grant to purchase two pieces of inclusive equipment for the school playground.
Company officials said the pieces will include an Aro Spinning Chair, which aids those in wheelchairs, and the Nova Playful Bench, which allows children to sit while playing with others.
“Learning cooperation and how the world works around them are invaluable life skills that begin during play and an inclusive playground provides opportunities for children to interact face-to-face and use their imagination,” McRae Elementary School Principal Heather Franks said. “By including a variety of options on the playground, there will be developmentally appropriate challenges that meet kids wherever they are at while letting them build comfortably on the skills they already possess.”
Company officials said Entergy Arkansas has awarded nearly $500,000 to various nonprofits across the state, providing funding for emergency response, scholarships, food pantries and more.
