Cabot family loses nearly everything in house fire

CABOT, Ark. – A smoke alarm still rings in the ears of a family in Cabot as they sort through the ashes of what’s left of their home following a fire last Friday.

Barbara Negrete was home with her son, Richard Suitt, and her boyfriend when their home caught fire.

The family said they believe the fire was started by something electrical underneath the house. The Mountain Springs Volunteer Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Negrete and her son were renting the home, and while the walls that burned weren’t technically theirs, everything inside the home was.

Now, Negrete says it’s all gone.

“I just went and bought everything brand new. Some rugs, stuff like that. Some blankets, pillows, you name it,” Negrete said. “I just bought all the food for Thanksgiving, and now it’s probably ruined.”

While Thanksgiving dinner may be ruined for this family, her son said there is still much to be thankful for.

“I’m thankful that my sons weren’t there,” Suitt said, “I’m thankful that we all got out safely. I’m thankful for the people who have donated some items.”
