Little Rock Central High School teacher receives Prestigious Presidential Award

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A Little Rock Central High School teacher was selected to receive the Prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).

Mary Maris will receive the award along with a signed certificate from President Joe Biden, a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation and an opportunity to attend an award ceremony in Washington, D.C.

The PAEMST program honors teachers for the contributions to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

Maris has served as Dean of the Science Department and is currently overseeing the construction and development of the new science wing at Central High School. She was named Little Rock School District’s Teacher of the Year in 2017.

“The Central High School family is so proud of Dr. Maris,” Little Rock Central High School principal Nancy Rousseau said. “Her passion for science education and her ability to inspire her students exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding educator at our school.”
