JONESBORO, Ark. – Arkansas native and Grammy-Award winner Ashley McBryde will receive an honorary degree at Arkansas State University.
University officials said the artist, who attended ASU, will receive an Honorary Doctorate in Music. The morning spring commencement will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro and an afternoon ceremony will be held at 2 p.m.
McBryde’s song “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” won a Grammy Award in 2023 for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. She has also won Academy of Country Music Awards, Country Music Association Awards and has received a Daytime Emmy nomination.
School officials said the student speaker for the morning commencement will be Amber Yates and Sabrina Pierce for the afternoon ceremony.
Both ceremonies are open to the public. All parking near the First National Bank Arena will be available, but parking on the grass will not be allowed. Doors will open 90 minutes before the ceremony begins.
